HE Alexander Yakovenko
Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Court of St James and Honorary President, Russo-British Chamber of Commerce
On 27 January 2011 Alexander Yakovenko was appointed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev as the country’s new Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Yakovenko is 56 years old.
A career diplomat, he has served in the Foreign Ministry since 1976, which he joined straight after graduating from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations.
Fluent in English and French and with a doctorate in Law, he is the author of a number of books on international law.
Yakovenko has dealt with co-operation with international organisations for most of his career, including in his most recent post as Deputy Foreign Minister, which he has held since August 2005.
